By July 27, 2018 January 23rd, 2020 No Comments

Google AdWords, launched in 2000, has been the most sought after PPC platform for almost two decades. Over the years it has had received regular updates, never a change of brand name. This is the first time in the platform’s history that Google is renaming it to Google Ads. AdWords accounts are beginning to receive greeting messages about the rebranding. The logo on the web interface has also been updated on the welcome page.

Google Announcement

Google Ads also made an official announcement on Twitter about the change of brand name for the program. The company, in fact, announced a month ago about the rebranding move. In its latest announcement after the change, it made it clear that the name change is going to take some time to roll. It has already started and users can expect a few months before it rolls out to everyone. The official statement came from Google Ads’ new Twitter handle.

Extended Rebranding

The rebranding move comes as part of simplifying the paid advertising programs offered by the search giant. There are a few more changes that Google is making to its extended products.

  • You will now find Google Marketing Platform. It replaces DoubleClick and Google Analytics 360 by combining them together into one.
  • There is a new feature, Google Ad Manager. It replaces DoubleClick Ad Exchange and DoubleClick for Publishers.

Google Ad Manager is the search engine’s comprehensive programmatic platform.

Rebranding Rollout

Currently, the rebranding move is limited to the web interface. There are some extended products that will need to be renamed as well. This includes The AdWords app and AdWords Editor. Google has not made any announcement in this regard.

The rebranding effort and different program consolidations will help align the search giant’s paid ad programs with other advertising programs. For example, there is Bing Ads for Bing search and Facebook Ads for the social media giant

AdWords was initially released to run textual ads on Google Search. Since then, the company has added many features to make it the largest search advertising program. Some of the features that have been added or integrated into it included Google Display Network, YouTube, and Gmail.
